
This course is for everyone! From frequent high altitude enthusiaststo those who have never been to the high mountains or have never worn a pair of crampons but yearn for their first high mountain experience.
The objectives for this course include: learning to correctly use an ice axe and crampons while climbing (cramponage), learning how to properly manage the rope while climbing a glacier (rope management), and finally, learning how to rescue a roped party in the event of an accident (self-help of the roped party).
Learning Topics
- Familiarize yourself with all necessary climbing gear such as ATCs, GRIGRIs, ropes, carabiners, harnesses, slings, quick-draws, etc.
- Refamiliarization with basic knots such as the figure-8, clove hitch, and mountaineer's hitch
- Cramponage Levels I, II, III - (climbing while using an ice axe and crampons)
- Progression of the roped team on the glacier
- Self-rescue of the roped party on the glacier
